I believe many animals are aware enough that they deserve to be treated to some basic rights. I think most people intrinsically understand this. Any time I've had to kill an animal I've known it is important to do so humanely.

I've had dhabiha slaughtered meat before (not that it tastes any different). When I learned how that worked, I was (And am) convinced such cruelty should be illegal in any civilized nation. It's needless. PETA is a particularly awful organization because it conflates what is wrong with what isn't wrong, and sucks a lot of oxygen out of the debate. I've noticed many organizations manage to usurp issues like this... they seem to do it for fundraising.

The organizations that stick to the real issues just aren't sexy and exciting enough to compete.

"Dogs have managed to ingratiate themselves with humans even though I suspect that the majority of them do nothing that is practically useful to us at present."

I have two dogs. One is the useless type, unless you need an alarm system that is triggered by motorcycles and cats. I wouldn't have chosen that one, but I was compelled to because the dog's former owner was cruel. He's not even a good companion. He's just an old frail beagle that sleeps 99% of the time and has a lot of physical problems. I do feel good about taking care of this little guy, but it's not practical or anything. I would however note that men who are kind and capable of caring for dogs will be more successful at finding mates... what woman wouldn't appreciate a prospective mate who knows how to care for dogs?

It fascinates me that these impractical breeds are so successful compared to dogs like blue heelers (my other dog is a heeler, and a breed I am quite biased in favor of).Dustinhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15590811467601049788noreply@blogger.com
